..which will insert all the sound modules in the kernel permanently,
right? And which is what I am trying to avoid. I know it's 'only' about
200K, but with a P75 + 48MB you want to save every K of memory:-) By the
way, another thing I didn't understand: (of many:-)) I tried to build ISA 
PnP support as modules (there are 2 questions in configure, I tried M for
both), isapnp ran fine on startup, lsmod showed isapnp, but sound wouldn't
work...
