Well, news on my sendmail problem...

If I don't bother with a smart host, all works perfectly!  I still get the authentication warning, but that doesn't stop it. The only hosts I can't deliver to are those using MAPS or similar.

When I try to use smtp.blueyonder.co.uk, the SENDER is OK, it falls over on the TO line. It says 'user unknown' for anyone not on their domain.

There are no reported problems at the status page at blueyonder, so I presume it's an incompatibility. For now, I will just use no smart host, and anyone whose ISP uses MAPS will not get mail from me!
