First thanks to everyone who replied for the info
At the moment pppd is run without authentication by httpd, but the link
from the html form to the cgi script points to
http://seamus.privnet/cgi-bin/progname - as the domain privnet is bogus,
refering to 192.168.0.0/16 & exists only for the LAN anybody outside
will get a DNS lookup failure when they click on the link. Not exactly
watertight security but it'll do for the meanwhile. Been thinking about
a cookie based authentication scheme - produce a special page to
generate a cookie, give it to all the local machines then write a perl
script that checks the cookie & updates the expiry date before doing the
pppd stuff (plus I get to improve my perl).
