Sure - 2.4.2, as required in Documentation/Changes. Notice - for dd you
don't need ANY software support AT ALL (?), apart from a valid /dev/XXX
node. However, hdparm -i /dev/hdb shows info ok, as well as hdparm
-I... One thing that was changed from previous 2.2.14 kernel -
IDE-SCSI-emulation (for a tape drive) - it's compiled into kernel... Can
this cause the problem? But the CD-ROM is detected at boot-up as
/dev/hdb...

No, it's a usual ISO-9660 disk...
