We have a working situation where Manlug and WYlug people circulate
round all the meetings.  So, they know what's going to happen before
it does.

Those of us who don't turn up don't get to know.  Been that way for a
long time :)

So, if you rely on a mailing list you almost never get to know much at
all.  Other than help with some technical stuff.
