[Sheflug] Unix for the masses?

I was just reading an article at MacAddict about how MacOSX is doing what
various folk thought Linux would do, ie. bring a Unix variant to Joe Public.

Jolly good, I say. Apple have a reputation for good, simple, stable UI
design, and combining that with the power of a BSD unix (which is runs on
top of, if you didn't know), you get the OS for a non-techno savvy
generation.

This is good, because it leaves all the hacking, script writing, head
banging, and tweaking to those of use who love it most, without having to
dumb it down so your average punter would understand - because they won't
need to! Good one, Apple, if you can pull it off!

What do you lot think of this idea of forcing an OS to be idiot proof? As
you can tell, I think that like everything it has a time and a place. For
Linux, the time is not now, and the place is not my hard drive!

Just 2p to kick of some sort of discussion :-)
