[Sheflug] Public access services

Just got an abuse warning through from blue yonder. It wasn't directly aimed
at me, tho', just a mass mailshot. It said this:

Types of misuse which have recently been logged include:

..

Purposeful retention of IP addresses not allocated as such to hi-speed
customers
Running of open access servers on the hi-speed service

..

Sounds like they're clamping down. So much for my idea of an ssh and VNC
server I could access from anywhere :-( along with my own self-hosted web
site and mail server. And I was so looking forward to playing ISP in my
cupboard :-)

I think the availability of server software and the vast number of people
capable of using such software is worrying the average ISP. Evidence of this
is the MAPS system, although I agree that is good in general as it stops
spammers. It's just things like apache et al, which don't hurt anyone, and
would entertain those who wanted to do it (ie. me)

2p more. I'll soon be out of 2p's, start on the 5s :)
