Looks like it IS the BT line fault, that they can't identify... The new
modem also failed to detect the dial tone / carrier...

AT&V1 seems to be a proprietary command, specific to only some modems - it
is not in the list of Hayes commands that I use (from kppp documentation),
typing it doesn't produce any meaningful output...

Will try this tonight, but don't expect much success... I just want to
make sure it is NOT my system that's faulty, because if they send an
engineer in and he doesn't find a fault in the line - they charge you 70
pounds... No, I can't get another computer to try connect it to my line,
nor I can try connecting my system to another line...
