Don't worry about the NIC - buying something with a name you've heard will
mean you can be 99% sure it will work. Even if you haven't heard of the
manufacturer, it will probably work too.

Graphics - again, pretty much anything. Matrox card are well supported.
Check the xfree86.org pages if you like. Sound - most common cards work.

Ugh, riscos.... :) You shouldn't have problem with thinnet cards, although
if you get a dual b2/bT card you may have problems 'selecting' the mode in
which it operates. Generally, 3coms work very well. Or, it may be cheaper to
scavenge a 10b2 card from somewhere and buy a proper one for other machines,
if you ever intend to add more. Linux will happily act as a bridge or
gateway to connect the networks.
