Well, I did it with one of those 'mother' downloads, and it worked
fine. Mostly. There was a broken dependency with perl, which caused
debconf to barf at one point, but after that it was a breeze.
I've even got Ximian to install, mostly. The sawfish capplet doesn't
run properly, but I'm sure that'll be fixed RSN (tm).
I can't say about the snapshots, but I can certainly vouch for the
'apt-get upgrade' option . When I did it, it was a painful, but
necessary experience. I can certainly remember that figuring out
all the dependencies meant that most of the packages had to be
installed anyway. My advice would be to go for an 'upgrade' option
from CD, and then an 'update' from the 'net.
