[Sheflug] Modem puzzle

Hi there

I am having a problem getting my modem to dial out.

I have a US robotics sporster flash modem on my desktop PC and I am using WVdial
to connect to Freeserve.

The modem dials the number but I am getting the message
"ppp daemon died unexpectedly exit code =10"

I also have a laptop that has a PCMCIA modem in it and this connects to
freeserve every time so
I know that is not a problem there.

The only difference with the two machines is that when running wvdial on the
laptop
the connection has line

"CONNECT 115200 V34"

and it connects fine.

With the external usrobotics modem on my desktop I get the line

CONNECT 33900 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (and loads more squiggles)
and the PPP connection fails.
Could this be the modem at fault?
Any ideas?
Thanks
