with the patch copied to the /usr/src.linux-2.4.4 directory i run the
following command from the same directory

patch -p1 ./supermount-0.5.3-2.4.0.diff

i gunzipped before running this!

> Ross, are there different patches for 2.4.4 and 2.4.3 etc?

no the patch is for kernel 2.4.x

i've opened the file in a text editor and it looks ok.... no gibberish in
there as far as i can tell. here's an extract........

diff -rNu --exclude-from=exclude linux-2.4.vanilla/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c
linux-2.4/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c
--- linux-2.4.vanilla/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c	Sun Jan 14 17:09:06 2001
+++ linux-2.4/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c	Sun Jan 14 17:28:04 2001

so patch -p1 should give a directory of

drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c linux-2.4/drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c

which is within the linux-2.4.4 directory!

any advice?
