[Sheflug] modem problems / ISP?
Hi all
Some of you might remember my recent problems with the modem, well, I
bought a new one following some one's recommendation from a shop on West
St. (thanks) - external no-brand... It works - sortof... The problem is -
when I ping smb, I get min/max/avg smth like 200ms/5000ms/2000ms, i.e.
some pings take WAY too long to come (on otherwise idle connection). Same
with telnet / ssh - you press a key, it might take couple (up to ~10)
seconds for it to appear... I studied the manual and included all I could
think of AT commands in the init string. No use. I am connecting to IC24
at the moment. It's a free ISP, they had free (0800) inet access from 20
to 24 each day, which was good, but from 1 June I couldn't connect to
that, so, had to use their local-rate line.
Anyway, so, 2 questions, please:
1) what else can I try with the modem? I didn't have this problem with the
older 28.8 USR Courier external.
2) can you suggest some other 'free' (local rate, no subscription) ISP,
where I wouldn't be asked to download and run some_stupid.exe? At least to
try and see if the problem is with the ISP.
Thanks
Guennadi
