Thanks for the suggestion.

I have checked the seating of the video card (yet again) and it is firmly
seated and secure in the socket and right down. But still there is the
problem of having to wait 5-10 minutes before I can re-boot.

The video card manual says that seating problems give continuous bleeps, but
this is only a long one followed by two short ones (the Morse code letter
"D").

Ah well, back to the drawing board.
