[Sheflug] Stupid cron question

Hi all.

Just out of interest, how does the system figure where to store a
user's crontab?

I looked at /var/spool/cron/[username] and the file is nearly the same
as the file that is presented by crontab -e, except for:

# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - edit the master and reinstall.
# (/tmp/crontab.28802 installed on Tue Jun 19 19:35:27 2001)
# (Cron version -- $Id: crontab.c,v 2.13 1994/01/17 03:20:37 vixie Exp $)

at the start.

Why bother with the wierdly named /tmp/ file?

Cheers,

Baz.
