	From the man page:
Note that the user to be added must already
exist in the system password file (usually
/etc/passwd) else the request to add the user will
              fail.

i.e., david must have an account in the samba box.

Presumably sammy does have an account.

I'm not sure of it, but if it's for a home network, why not have
everything public? Unless your brother's taste in music is as unpopular
as mine :-) (oh, well, and remember you're using a derivative of UNIX,
so you have to
#define PARANOID 1
and you all that, so usual disclaimer).

The samba daemons (nmbd and smbd are usually activated through
init. In other words, check your /etc/rcX.d directories. (if you're
using debian, other distros will keep things somewhere else).

You want IP Masquerading if you're using dial-up because you
connect to your ISP and they will only give you a single IP address.
This is fine for a computer, but it would be nice to share the modem
connection. To do this, you just use the linux box as a gateway (sorry,
lazy today). The IP-Masquerade HOWTO is quite good (beg to differ
Richard). The abstract says:
This document describes how to enable the Linux IP Masquerade feature
on a given Linux host. IP Masq is a form of Network Address Transla
tion or NAT that allows internally connected computers that do not
have one or more registered Internet IP addresses to have the ability
to communicate to the Internet via your Linux box's single Internet IP
  address.

	Best luck
	José
