I use mutt, and it normally picks up when the mailbox has changed. I bet if
you had done something to the mailbox, like read a message, it would have
displayed the extra messages. Other then that, Shift-4 (the $ key) will
sync the mailbox (usefull if you've got a bunch of spam you've just deleted
and you want it to disappear).
