[Sheflug] Serial probs...

Hi,
as a test (and because I was bored), I decided to install
Mandrake 8 in some extra space I had on my "athomebox". Cracking, good
installation and all the rest of it. I was very impressed. What I wasn't
so impressed about was my modem detection thing (or rather, lack
thereof).

I have a modem in ttyS2, port 0x3e8 and irq 11. If I try to user
setserial in mandrake with these parameters (and UART 16450), I get the
following error:
ttyS2: safety check engaged

This is an UART problem (it is a non-existant state that
apparently is registered). It could be down to the serial port's UART
being off the the trolley, or to me choosing an incorrect port. Since
the ports are the same as on windows and debian, this is ruled out,
unless mandrake does some magic to my port/irq settings. However, the
modem is hardwired to a particular IRQ, so I don't see what could be
going wrong...

	Any ideas?

	José
