Re: [Sheflug] Connecting to BT Internet with Mandrake 8.0

Craig

Oh well here goes. One Newbie trying to help another newbie. Everybody else
please do not shoot me down in flames.

>I am unable to connect to my ISP when in Linux. I can however connect fine in
WinME.

I had the same problem an I have a USR Sporster Flash 56K modem.

>I connect to BT Internet, using the Anytime number (08089933001). I am not
using a WinModem. I have a USR 33.6/56K modem.
>When I dial, it makes the screaching sounds, but then freezes on a particular
sound, and just stays like that. I am in Windows now, but if I remember
correctly, it says 'EXPECTING: CONNECT' at the bottom.

After asking this very group for help I went to www.modemhelp.org and got an ATZ
string for my specific modem.
There is a big list of all makes of modems and INIT strings that will work.

I am connecting to Freeserve with the dialler that appears as an Icon in the
bottom right of the screen in KDE 2.2
I typed the INIT string in and hey presto it worked.

I hope that helped.
