[Sheflug] Locating services on the internet

Hi all,

I've a connection to the internet that's ip address is assigned dynamically.
I would like to be able to locate the connected box from across the
internet, initially to access documents available via a web server.

My problem is as the ip address is dynamic so i cannot expect to find it in
the same place twice.

As a workaround i thought i could write a script that would do an ifconfig ,
parse the ouptut to give me an ipaddress and then send that output as an
http request to a web site that has a cgi script running , and that turns
the http PUT into a html redirect back to the dhcp'ed box. Then run the
script every 15 min in a cron job

I'm sure i could parse ifconfig and knock up some perl to generate my html
redirect(eventually) but how about the initial http PUT from my Suse box.
would lynx do it.

Any thoughts , or better ideas.

TIA
Alan Dawson
