I downloaded php-4.0.6.tar.gz, untarred and unzipped it, ran
./configure --with-mysql ---with-apxs --enable-versioning --enable-track-vars
and all seemed to be well... except it don't work.

Umm, I also did "make" and "make install" of course, so the answer's not 
that simple
