[Sheflug] XFree4 config on Woody

OOoooo.

I too have been messing around with Debian on my laptop, and after
about 2 apt-get -f dist-upgrades, 4 apt-get -f upgrade and a couple
apt-get removes I've got a sort of working Woody laptop.

Now it's time to ask stupid questions :-)

I've got X 4.1.0.1 installed on the machine, however configuring it is
a different matter.

I've tried the usual XF86Config, but I can't find it (either installed
or packaged), and I'm not up to writing an XFConfig-4 for my laptop
(workstations - pah! easy! :-)

Also on the Woody theme, is Woody ready for a 2.4 kernel?
Are there any changes to make on Woody before I upgrade the 2.2.19
kernel I built a while back?

Also (prompted by the modutils bit) how do you check the installed
version of a package?
command --version is OK in most cases, but other packages are more
than one command.

Cheers.

Baz.
