Sorry, don't know if this has been answered by someone else but I think 
you'll find that the links, when fitted horizontally, are just storage 
positions.
ie. Master = the leftmost  vertical pair connected, CS = the 2nd from left 
vertical pair connected and Slave = all links open.

This might help it make more sense to you.
