Sorry, I think this was more late night typing - I meant rsync and a
cron job.
oh, right. Yes. Would have been better than the cp -R method I
employed. Mucked up all the file permissions and now lots of things
don't work. I've got a list of setuid programs from root's mailbox so
that might help.
A million thanks to everyone who helped me sort my hdd problems out at
the sheflug meeting on Saturday and later on well into the night (we had
a wee party at my house). We had great fun figuring out why the kernel
wouldn't load from disk and it wasn't until nearly midnight that we
realised that setting the HPT disk controller to work in PIO mode wasn't
a good idea. Just one of my more wacky experiments that was.
I've only one wee question more :-) is there any hope of splitting an
existing partition into 2 (or 3) without destroying the data on the
partitions that follow it on the new hdd? 'Cos that's just where my
current system resides...
