Re: [Sheflug] dual booting

Unfortunately I'm not great on the lilo front, I do have a solution from
the win2k side of things.
I run a laptop dual booting win2k and linux, the best solution I've had so
far is as follows :
Install w2k
do the install of linux and place lilo at the start of the /boot partition.
Make a boot disk - v important
boot back into linux using boot disc and run the following command as root
:
     dd if=/dev/hda3 of=redhat.bin bs=512 count=1
(where /dev/hda3 is your /boot partition, if you only use a single
partition then it will be the / partition)
copy the redhat.bin file to the root of your win2k install (C:\)
modify boot.ini (hidden, read-only File in the root of c:) as follows :

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=c:\redhat.bin
rem default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
c:\redhat.bin="Redhat Linux 7.2"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect

You should than have the option at boot to start linux or win2k.
NB: You need to re run the dd command whenever you put a new kernel in (and
lilo )
