[Sheflug] SB 16 woes
Hi,
we have a computer running with a soundcard, a network
connection and a DTMF decoder chip attached to the parallel port (it is
an IRLP node <http://www.irlp.net>). The system must run RH6.2. it had
been going for a while, but on an older box, which was prone to
crashing, so a new one was bough (P166+trimmings), and we just swappend
the hard disk over, put the same old NE2k card in and the old SB 16 PnP
(CT 2409). The network card works (it is PnP), but the sound card
doesn't. In particular, if I pnpdump the ISA bus (both cards are ISA,
btw), I get no found cards at all! I tried putting another soundcard in
(OPL or something), and this was found. Still, no trace of the network
card (which seems to work, probably because of some MS-DOS compatibility
setting), or of the soundcard. As it happens, we do have a copy of the
posh OSS drivers around, and they do also fail to install.
I presume that it might be something to do with the BIOS
settings, but I've gone all over the BIOS, and no luck. The card was
working fine as of yesterday on the old computer (and being found on the
pnp bus).
I can't just upgrade the kernel to 2.4, so I'd rather have some
feedback on diagnosis of the PnP thing for the 2.2.X kernel which we
are using at the moment.
Cheers,
José
