RE: [Sheflug] Re: Suggestions of distro?
Hiya James
What problems have you got with it? You say it's not secure... Do you
mean you've checked it on something like http://grc.com and it says your
shields are down and your ports are open (those that you want closed
anyhoo)? Bastille-firewall works out of the box. You can either
configure it using the mandrake control centre or by editing the
bastille-firewall.cfg file (in /etc/Bastille). Don't worry too much
about messing with the cfg file unless you need to tweak it (I had to to
allow my LAN to be 'trusted')... I'll send you my cfg file off list if
you need it.
As for other things, I'm not sure what else you need. All the net
'probers' have told me that my system is pretty well locked down and as
for other services, well I'm running web, ftp, samba, net connection
sharing, the lot with my linux box on LM8.1.
If you have any specific things (particular to LM8.1 that I can
literally give you my settings for or whatever) then please ask.
Best wishes
Neil

www.bsdtoday.com , but they all involve editing files which i would be
at a loss with in the world of command lines.
ive also been looking at red hat, but i seem to rememeber ppl on here
slagging it off - though im not sure why?
at the moment im also downloading peanut linux - very user friendly and
pretty looking and i should be able to secure everything once i have
basics running......but im sure its gonna be bad for me... as anyone
here will probabaly tell me if theyve used it.
thanks loads for helping newbie fools like me
james
