I've done quite a few networks with SuSE 7.3.  I've seen that it's 
possible to do it but it's a lot of messing around.   I prefer to use 
the 3Com cards or better still go to Maplins or a similar place and 
look for a card with the Realtek RTL 8029 or 8039 chip on it.  You 
can get one from Maplins for not much.  Most PC shops in Sheffield 
sell the RTL type.  At least.... when they re-open after Christmas 
they will.
