I think you are making samba mounting a bit more difficult than you need to.
In my case I have made a directory on the linux machines for each of the
windoze machines and use the command format
smbmount <//windoze machine and drive> <mountpoint>
so, in the case of your machine I would do:-
smbmount //gandalf/c /gandalf
