Re: [Sheflug] deleted data
hmm... ok, here is how it is. My father said he wanted his machine upgrading
(the one he uses for work, with all his estimates/invoices/accounts on
etc.). He wanted linux on, so I upgraded the machine, and put another hard
drive on. He was then wingeing that he wanted more space on the old drive,
which is only a 250MB drive. I don't know why, as he could just save to
hda1... but he was pestering me to give him more space so he could still
save his invoices etc to the same directory on the old drive. Without
meaning to, I did a clasic BOFH and said 'there ya go...' So now he has
plenty of space...
Yeah I know... why didn't I burn the whole image of the old drive straight
on to a cd before even looking at it? I always do that before touching any
of my machines... but I was feeling lazy. The last back up of his system is
2 months old, so now he is *really* having a winge. So... I need to do the
'pull the rabit out of the hat' trick, and get all his word documents, excel
documents etc back in a hurry.
I was actually booted in doze rather than ix when I performed my 'coup de
grace', and yes, it was bigger than the recycle bin.
I have looked at Recover98 (*just*) and that might work, but the demo
doesn't play over 10kb, so I guess I will have to splash out $60 on the full
version, unless I can figure out a way of doing this in ix.
So, there ya have it! I can't stop laughing, to be honest. I know it is a
fairly dire situation, but I never thought I would be able to rank with
ST... I bet even he wouldn't do that to his own father... haha
Cheers,
Damian
