Hmm ... can't remember; been a while since I had to shutdown one of the DU
boxes (seeing as we don't use them as much as we used to :( ). From what I
remember though, I think it uses them in 4.0 but not completely sure. 5.0 is
the Compaq-branded version, so maybe Compaq "fixed" things ? *shrug*

Agreed -- that's a pain in the neck, and I suspect this is many other peoples
pet hate with Solaris...summat I've never understood. Okay, there's gcc but
that's not as good as a vendor-native compiler (especially as, IIRC, 64-bit
gcc for sun4u are still in development).
