File formats are irrelevant at this level - it's disk
formats/partition types.

For a Windows partition, you'll need to figure that out yourself,
depending on which version of Windows you're running.

It's likely to be one of FAT32 or NTFS (I think NTFS covers Win2k's
NTFS 5, but don't quote me on that).

For Linux, swap will be type 82, Linux swap and the data partitions
need to be type 83, Linux - regardless whether you're using ext2, ext3
or reiserfs.

LILO either goes in the master boot record (normal) or into the start
of one of the partitions, IIRC.
LILO is the boot manager.

The only problem LILO has is if /boot is not within the first 1024
cylinders it tended to barf.
I have a suspicion that this applied only to older versions of LILO.

If you can, stick Windows at the end of the disk, and Linux at the
start to be sure, or use a better loader such as GRUB.

Cheers.

Baz.
