[Sheflug] simple question really

this is something that has evaded me for years...

how do i password protect a directory on an apache based website.

i think a file called .htaccess needs to go into the directory you want to
protect.

i think also you need to run a command called htaccess to create a password
file.

i also think you need to reference that file somewhere in httpd.conf.

can anyone give me a dummys how-to...

thanks!
