Re: [Sheflug] lost mbr

Hi Alex,

Sorry about the name thing - what fool put the 'C' next to the 'X' - I
wonder if that's how there came to be an Alec as well as an Alex??? <g>

Right - I did the fdisk /mbr thing from a dos boot floppy and I can now boot
back into windoze OK. I then tried to do an 'expert' install of RedHat which
got as far as the 'select type of install' screen - I selected 'custom' to
allow me to choose the partitions. packages etc. and I got a window up
saying 'Error' - 'An error occurred reading the partition table for the
block device hda. The error was: No such file or directory'. The options
available were 'Retry' and 'Skip drive'. I chose 'Retry' and the last part
of the message changed to 'The error was: Success' . Hitting the OK button
now just took me back to the previous error message and round the loop again
with no escape.
Now I have just put an old Caldera CD in the machine and it had found the
right linux partitions, written them to the disk again and started to format
them. However, the formatting seems to be taking forever - much longer than
it should for a 1Gb partition so I wonder if its screwed up again..

Best wishes,
Ian
