Toshibas are very friendly, and can install almost anything (possibly not 
BeOS :)

Compaq machines have parts of the BIOS on the hard disk, and all sorts of 
proprietary nonsense. Toshibas have none of that. I use a 4030CDT, and it is 
excellent. 100% Linux compatible (with binary winmodem driver) to boot!
