[Sheflug] MySQL - PHP connection problem

Hope you can help - probably obvious but I can't see the solution right now...

Have moved some PHP scripts to a new server & for some reason have been
unable to connect to a MySQL server on our ISP. This seems to be a gateway
related problem, but I can't quite see what is going on.

Symptoms are...

1) PHP reports a server not found error to...

	mysql_connect("host", "login", "passwd")

statement.

There is apparently no attempt to connect to the server coming by the Linux
box running the script & it doesn't seem to matter what the mysql host name
is.

2) http requests to the host work OK - a connection is made (via our ISDN
router).

3) I can connect to the mysql server via a ssh session to the host.

This suggest to me that it is something related to the PHP / APACHE
configuration related to MySQL.

It has been working at an earlier stage but I have no idea what has changed,
other than we had some problems with network card configuration last week
(eventually tracked to a faulty hub). All other services (Samba etc) seem to
be running OK, & the PHP script is quite happy to make a connection to MySQL
running on the same machine.

System is running Suse 8.

Thanks

Bob Holland
