Re: [Sheflug] Hard Disks, Partitioning and Distrubutions!
The first disk of the new Debian Woody distro just installs a pretty minimal
system.
Best wishes,
Ian

Subject: [Sheflug] Hard Disks, Partitioning and Distrubutions!
Hiya,
I don't want to cause an arguement, but I don't like many of the
current distrubutions. Mostly due to the amount of software and set up of
some of the software. I have tried such as SuSE 7.1 on minimum but I still
don't like it. I know I can alter it then but i'd prefer to install
everything myself, well almost. I have looked at linuxfromscratch.org but
not sure if I want to install from nothing, prefer an initial system.
Ok the real question is, is there a simple (up to date) distrubution
that gets a basic system on with say a command line and a gcc? I can get the
rest installed, I don't want 250mb of software on as an initial install of a
distro.
The second point is, I have a computer with 5 2Gig SCSI drives (Running
on Adaptec 2940) and a 100mb IDE disk. So I need to boot of the IDE disk and
then use the SCSI for the rest. Going to be run as a general purpouse Server
for myself, while I work mainly (SORRY) on a Windows 2000 computer which
uses the Server.
Can anyone please advice me on mount points etc, just never set Linux up
on multiple hard disks...
Thanks,
Steve
