Well fine, but the kernel is common to all distributions. I provided a date 
range for when the broken ones were current and this is relevant to any 
distro that uses them. The extra information about RH is there for interest 
and incase that was useful to him (as I didn't know which distro he's 
using) or other list members.

2.2 kernels had experimental DMA support and was disabled in Debian by 
default. Older 2.4 kernels were broken; newer ones should be OK.

I've just done a quick google search for "debian system bus speed" and, 
from the results, I'm guessing that Richard S is getting this message:
"ide: Assuming 33Mhz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with
idebus=xxx"
