Okay.  Had a bit more of a play with it.  I've copied over the 
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key and ssh_host_rsa_key to the /etc/ssh folder 
on the SuSE machine from the Debian box.  A look under the /etc/ssh 
folder reveals that the SuSE keys are in there but there is no such 
thing as dsa_key or rsa_key before I copy them over from the Debian 
box but there is now.

After doing..

 rsync -avz -e ssh 192.168.1.109:/home/user /home/user

I find that I still have to type in the password when I am asked for 
it on the Debian console. What do I need to do to get the Debian box 
or the SuSE box to understand what it is that I want both of them to 
do ?  Looked at the man pages and they didn't make any sense to me.   
When I tried what they said I just got lots of error messages.
