I used to think that having a static IP would make my life a lot easier
- and it would have initially. But, while that was true at the time,
after I discovered the like of dyndns and the finer points of vhosting
etc. I began to realise that having a dynamic IP was a good thing. As
you hint at security, I guess with dynamic IPs that the little kids with
scanners only get a couple of goes unless you leave your machine on all
the time.
However, for me the best bit is you can't have your particular IP banned
forever from a service (justly or not). Once I had my IP banned from an
anon ftp server just because they noticed I was using Linux and assumed
I was therefore a hacker (they meant cracker I think).
Just a couple of thoughts.
