Hi,
I hope newbies are welcome here, because I am
one. I'm not new to computing (about 15 yrs all told) but I'm afraid it's
all been on Windows or MS-DOS before it. I've done a bit on UNIX in the
last year but it's a real bit and only as a user. But anyway, you'll be pleased
to know I've seen the light and have erased Windows off my home
PC!!!!
I've mananged to install Red Hat 7. A major
success or so I thought. The problem is the modem! Boy what a nightmare, I
have to say if Linux is ever to become a real threat to Windows in the
"Personal" Computing domain then it has to sort out this problem of setting up
devices.
I'm aware of this winmodem issue and I think my old
56k was a winmodem (I always bought cheap!), so that's gone, but I have an ISDN
card, which is really what I want to get working. It's a Eicon Diva PCI
internal card. It came with drivers but obviously only for Win 98 &
2000.
I've tried running the tool that's in Gnome to
setup my internet connection, it searches for a modem but says there's
nothing.
HELP!
If anyone knows how to do this, and I assume most
of you have successfully got your dial-up working, or knows a good site for me
to look at I will be forever grateful, well a few days at least ;o)
On another note, does the membership of this LUG
extend as far south as Newark or am I too soft and southern like for
guys?
In anticipation
Jonathan Hipkiss
