[Sheflug] cpio or taper guru?
i've got an HP DDS4 tape drive which I use for backing up my rh7.1 server
using taper (v6.9b i think) which generally serves me well.
i had to restore a file from one of my tapes, and the restored file was
corrupt. i tried messing with the taper settings, although I'm pretty sure
I've set them back to where they were. Taper now reports an incorrect block
size for this tape (it should be 28k, the default, I think), says its not a
taper archive, and refuses to look at it at all. In desperation I tried
using cpio (taper uses cpio at its heart doesn't it?), but it also says it
can't read the header.
i've tried backing up more files and they can be read back without problems,
so i don't think my tape drive is faulty or anything.
can anyone help me rescue this tape? there are a few crucial files on it.
many thanks,
stephen
