Re: [Sheflug] Back to Windows

Interesting though that you've gone back to a 4-year-old OS...

If I were in MS' shoes, that _would_ worry me.

From what I hear, installing win2000 Pro can be much harder than linux.

As for XP...  has anyone met anybody who likes it?
To me it looks more like a Disney cartoon.

Cheers,
Jim

Subject: [Sheflug] Back to Windows

I'm afraid that after persevering with Linux (Redhat) I'm giving up and returning to the Windows fold!

I got Linux running but the work involved in getting peripherals running such as IDSN cards, printers, CD burners, Zip drives, USB ports, Digital Cameras, Sound cards etc is prohibitive.  Ignoring all the software that doesn't come in a Linux version.

I'm not speaking as a computing novice but someone with experience of computers since before the PC and some (I admit just a little, but some) experience of UNIX.

In my opinion LINUX will remain a niche OS, used only by techies and UNIX professionals.  It will never attain widespread recognition and remove Microsoft's dominance until it has been made much much much easier to install.

Sadly, I have removed all trace of Linux and reinstalled Windows 98, a job which took a few hours.
