Oh, well when I worked at the university you had to ask (beg) for your
machine to have a fixed IP that is directly allowed 'out', i.e. not
behind their firewalls/proxies or whatever else they do. So, you need
to talk to the network admin guys (in CICS I guess). GOOD LUCK! :)
I recall we had a box running outside over in the hospital that we used
to ftp into etc. from our homes and such, but the admins found out and
put it behind their firewall and that was that - we even ran our own
webserver from there which is how they found out. I seem to remember we
didn't have a good enough reason to have that level of access. ho hum,
perhaps we didn't compliment them enough on their grasp of Klingon and
how wonderful we thought their social skills were lol
My own case is different. I am the network admin at home, so I do
whatever I like.
