When I was there ('94 -> '98), the admin were relatively relaxed about
adding access controls - any student on placement could just email
root@pine and ask for access to pine[1]. Back then, that was as much as was
needed. When I left they'd started rolling First Class out to the entire
uni (before it was just within CMS) - and this could be accessed remotely
from any IP.

So if you've got a fair reason, unless the admin have changed it should be
relatively straight forward to get access into the Uni. The only thing you
won't get is dial-in access ;)

Also departmental servers (i.e., those ran by CMS, Engineering etc) won't
be under the control of CIS (or whatever they call themselves these days) -
you'll need to speak to the tech of the department.

Getting out of the University was never a problem :)

However my information is four years out of date, so this may all be
completely useless.

Chris...
[1] pine (and teak as well I think) were replaced by holly about three
years ago.
