That's easy enough, as you can download good distributions for free
(apart from the cost of the d/l of course).

http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/ftpurl.php3 for Mandrake - you'll
probably be wanting the "Mandrake Linux 9.0 for i586 and higher",
assuming you have a modern PC to stick it on.  Download the 3 isos which
you burn to 3 CDs respectively and you're off (I installed mine using
CD1 to boot up with).

Give me your address off list and I'll whack a copy of Mandrake 9.0 for
you to try out without downloading it.  It's nice and newbie friendly
and free (as in... etc.).

I believe Lindows will cost you, because they don't have a free version
as far as I know.  I've never used SuSE, but I know it is well respected
and one of the gooduns (read, Debian, Mandrake, RedHat etc.)

Oh, just noticed you attached a University address.  As I say, just let
me know and I'll pop Mandrake in the post for you.
