Hi Antony Hawkins

For fist time install I would go for Manadrake, you need to find out
what processor is in your machine and download the version that suit's
your PC, if your PC is new why not hold on for a few weeks as Mandrake
9.1 will be out vary soon.

Could send Mandrake 9.0 in the post to you at your given address, mail
me off the list.

Would advice you to find a spare hard drive to install Mandrake on
first, mandrake can resize Windoze (fat32 fat16) partitions but would
try first on an old hard drive if possible.

If you load your boot loader to hda it may arise the need to remove it
use windoze boot disk at the prompt type

fdisk /mbr

If you wish to dual boot from a new hard drive, install windows first (
don't use all hard disk space ). Mandrake is vary easy to dual boot with
FAT32 (win98) ntfs (nt | xp)

Set bios to boot

cdrom a hd0

Select Install

Select Expert # yes go for this option

Diskdrake

It will then show your partitions, allow for the min of

/ # root partition
swap # swap file mem size * 1.5 appox
/home # user accounts

-----------------------------------------------------
| | | | |
| windoze | / | swap | /home |
| | | | |
-----------------------------------------------------

These are the main partitions you need for basic install, if you are not
sure select auto partition.

Items need to know

root = Yourself set password case sensitive

/root # Is roots home directory

/ = root tree

--------------------------------------------------------

Another option is to buy cheep book or SuSe box set as they have vary
good manuals for all people
