Well I've finally admitted defeat and order SuSE 8.1. I tried to
make it work under RH, even to the point of adding extra debugging
lines in the kernel, but to no avail. SuSE assure me that they
support my card and Amazon have sale on so I ordered SuSE 8.1 pro.

Hmm.. might be that there's a bug in 8.1 under i4L. If that's the case let me know and I can let you have a set of 8.0 CDs which as far as we know works fine with ISDN. 8.1 was good. All I found was a problem with Jpilot. Handspring palmtop won't work.

Hopefully that will sort me out. (SuSE have better website than RH
too, if that counts for anything).

Yes. Wasn't going to say that but since you mention it :) Debian GNU/Linux is quite good with ISDN but it takes so long to understand what to do with it that you'd be here in June still trying to install and configure it. If you like a challenge it's good.

Well I installed SuSE 8.1 and the ISDN failed in the same way as under Redhat. But after a bit of toing and froing with SuSE support it seems there is a bug the i4l routines. The workaround is....wait for it.....unplug the RJ45 and plug it back in again! After doing this I can connect. I have to do this every time I reboot, but at least it works and its easy.
