Some years ago I would have trembled with fear at the thought of 
installing Linux into a laptop.  Not now.  You shouldn't have any 
problems with an Acer although I've heard rumours of sound cards not 
working but working after a bit of persuasion.  Also, something about 
PCMCIA cards not quite working but working after a short pause for 
thought.

Get back to us if something fouls up.
