[Sheflug] Re: Backing up a shed load
Hi,
This may give you something to laugh at, the people who I am working with have a spanking Dell box
with a HD full of proteomics data (60 GB), we need to get the data of the computer for purposes of
backing up. There solution, hold onto your hat, Roxio Easy CD Creator....
I'll give you a minute to get up off the floor.... OK this is the problem, the data has to go on
CD. It cannot go anywhere else it "must be on CD". I have got a Linux box with a burner sitting
on the network and I think it may be possible to create a program which will take all the data from
the Dell box and dump it onto the Linux box cd burner, when a disk is full it is ejected and when
the disk is replaced burning resumes.
The process iterates untill all the files in the directory have been copied. I think burning
across a network may cause some problems, but a buffer folder on the linux box could solve that
problem.
OK, so that is my idea, any suggestions.... "The Data must be on CD". An acknowledgement on the
feasibility of this idea would also be appreciated.
